Nevada Legislature Address Concerns About Elder Abuse

The Nevada Legislature recently enacted Assembly Bill 223 which expanded the scope of unlawful acts against older persons to include abandonment.  In addition, the term “abuse” was revised to specifically include infliction of emotional anguish through threats or isolation, destroying property of a senior and nonconsensual sexual contact.

In addition, the term “exploitation” was expanded to include the improper use of power or trust in a way that deprives a person of free will and substitutes the objectives of another.

*The Latest FBI uniform crime report of 2013 indicated there were over 6,500 crimes committed against the elderly in Nevada.
